From
your accommodation in Marseillan there is so much
to choose from in the local area, you will run out
of time before you run out of ideas.
The information desk in the Town Hall will be able
to advise you on where to go and what to do, and
provide a bus time table too if you dont have
your own transport.
The Mediterranean from Marseillan
Plage (just 3 miles from the old town) to Sete there
is a fabulous stretch of golden sand. In the summer
there are beach bars for a simple lunch plus a swimming
pool and flume for the children.
The Mountains for a complete
change of scene, less than an hours drive and you
will be in the Black Mountains. The route takes
you through some charming villages like Florensac
and Pezenas then you wind around the hills on the
way to the Grottes des Clamouse www.clamouse.com
and St-Guilem
le Desert
Nearby Towns:
Aigues Mortes, a fortified town
with the walls still standing. Climb the Tower of
Constance and walk the parapet to view the sea and
the salt plains. They provide enough salt for the
whole of France there in that small area. Arles,
with a remarkably intact Amphitheatre, still used
for entertaining. You may even be lucky enough to
be there during a festival and see the running of
horses, or a bullfight.
Beziers
has a wonderful Cathedral on the top of a hill,
from where you can see the river Herault, and the
aquaduct that leads on to the Canal du Midi.
Carcassonne,
another walled City, beautifully lit it can be seen
from several miles around.
